Liebemarlene

Rhiannon Leifheit shares her vintage finds, day trips, and carefree sense of style with us on her blog Liebemarlene Vintage. You can also shop for some of the pieces you see at her Etsy store. Everything is 50% off right now!
I've been following Liebemarlene for a while, and I think you should too! Plus, Rhiannon's boyfriend Drew takes some amazing pictures :)

fancy flours

I've been baking a lot recently, and I'm really enjoying it. Baked treats make great gifts, and obviously they're super yummy. There are also a ton of amazing cooking and baking blogs and websites, and there is a lot more aesthetic creativity being injected into baked goods.
Yummy things + pretty things = my life.
Here are some things that I want to bake this Spring for whatever occasion I can find :)

I love buntings, and the fact that they are incorporated into this cake is incredible. I also love the pastel coloured layers of this cake– they're fun for Spring I think.

French toast kabobs?!? Amazing, and super easy to make. This might be a fun post-practice treat for my teammates. I'm definitely making these.

I'm actually going to bake these with some friends for our house formal, and while I'm certain they won't look as professional and amazing as the above, I'm excited to see how they turn out!!

This website, Fancy flours, is an amazing place to find baking accents, molds, and embellishments. A warning though– some of it is a bit pricey, so pick a special occasion before you buy something! Here are some of my favourite things from the site:
Frilly baking cups! Perfect for a birthday party, or something girly like that.

Of course I would pick the cups with bows on them...

I love the color combo on this baking cup! It would look great with white frosting :)

Lights

Hi Friends!
It's been a crazy week getting back into the swing of school, but it's also been a fun one. Lots of thing are on the go, but first things first. Here are the pictures of the dress that I made!
Here is the original:
Source: pinterest

and here is MY version!

I did buy some thick white ribbon for the waist, but I decided not to sew it on permanently so I have the option of mixing up the belt colour. I also really like the scalloped bottom– it turned out way better than I had expected! What do you guys think?

Okay, so back to what's been going on...
2 nights ago, I went to go see Travie McCoy in concert for the second time. It was awesome, especially because I wasn't able to make it to the Ellie Goulding concert last night :( Both of them are super different, but amazing. I couldn't find a video for my favourite Ellie Goulding song ("Your Biggest Mistake") but here is a video of her doing an amazing job singing live, which is hard to come by these days.

Here is my favourite Travie song too– it's a little less fun-loving than most of his other songs, but I kind of like it.

That's all for now! I hope you all have a lovely Thursday :)

Rockett St George

I just discovered the coolest online shop, full of great gift ideas (for other people AND for you!) Rockett St. George sells a collection of items for the home, scattered with a few miscellaneous items thrown in there. All of the items have a very british feel, without throwing the Union Jack in your face. The only downside? It costs 25 pounds to ship to the US, which means I won't be getting anything until I become a billionaire.
Here are a few things to add to my dream cart:

This might be the cutest thing ever. I love the look on the dogs face, and I love the sultry looking lampshade hat he has on his head. What a champ.

For those of you wondering, NO I am not dreaming about owning that silver lamé couch, but rather the WALLPAPER behind it. That's right, it's WALLPAPER. I can't even get over it. We've already established that I am not a big reader, but I love the idea of having pretty coffee table books, or books with pretty pictures in them. I didn't know bookshelf wallpaper was an option though, and I am totally into it.

I know if I ever bought this lace tape, it would be gone in a second. I would cover everything I own with lace trim, that there might have to be an intervention...

PS. My Spring break to-do list is all crossed off! I got my hair cut yesterday morning, and I finished up my first bow tie over the weekend. I'll also attach a picture of the black dress that I made soon, I promise.

Scatterbrained

Hi Friends!
I'm warning you– this is a scattered post, full of bits and pieces of what's been going on...

It finally feels like Spring Break with the beautiful weather we have been having in Cambridge. We had one day of torrential downpour, and since then it's been sunny and breezy. So beautiful. Training is going well, and I'm loving rowing more than ever.

On Wednesday, the rainiest of days, my friend KVF and I went to a small bead store in Harvard Square. It was a great rainy day activity– we got to pick out the bead, chains, and string that we wanted to use, pay for it, and then sit in the store and use their tools to make our jewelry for FREE. I made two things, but this one is my favourite (They're rose gold!)

I used to make jewelry a lot when I was younger, but I stopped wearing it as much. I'm trying to get back into it! If you read my earlier post about jewelmint.com, then hopefully you have checked it out and seen some of the amazing pieces that they have. If you refer jewelmint to a friend, and they buy something, you get one free piece of jewelry! So far, I have been able to add 2 things to my jewelry box. This is my most recent addition:

"Bermuda Earrings"

As for my Spring Break to-do list, I am making progress! I went to the fabric store yesterday and FINALLY found bowtie clasps (the hardest things to find!) and also got some ribbon for the black backless dress I am making. I've made about half of the dress :) I plan on finishing the rest of it tonight as I watch Sleepless in Seattle too! It's funny how I feel so productive doing things that I want to do, and probably would be doing anyways...

Right now, I'm off to grab lunch, and maybe make THESE with the leftover cream cheese that I have! nomnomnom...

Rainy days

It's been raining since 8:30am, and the weather forecast says it will continue to do so all day. I'm not going to let it bring me down, especially because we were given the afternoon off from rowing practice! I've already accomplished #3 on my Spring Break To-Do list: paint moustache nails!
Here are the originals from fuckyeahmustaches:

And here is my version! I tried to make my hand look all pretty and delicate like the original picture, but to no avail. Oh well!

Also, on March 8th I blogged about a toilet paper roll wall decoration that I saw online and was making for myself. Here is what mine looks like hanging from my wall :)

You may choose to ignore the crazy picture of my Dad hanging next to it...
Happy Wednesday!!

The Head and the Heart

What I'm listening to as I write my last midterm before Spring Break can REALLY begin!

I wish there was a real video, but this is the only studio quality version I could find on youtube. I also just got their album, and there are plenty more great songs like this one. I highly recommend it!

Spring Break!

Spring Break is finally here. For most people, that means jetting off to some exotic beachfront resort, but for me and the rest of my crew team, that means training on the Charles River. It's much more fun than it sounds, believe me. It means getting to row on the water every day, and getting a lot of stuff done, stuff that I like to do, between practices. Even though I still have one paper due on Monday (grrr...), I've already created my Spring Break to-do list.

1. Watch 'Sleepless in Seattle'
This is my FAVOURITE movie, and I watch it all the time. Still, it feels like the first time every time I see it.

2. Make some bowties for my favourite guys.
A LONG time ago, I promised my friend GLP that I would make him a bowtie for his birthday, and I never did. Not because I back out on promises or anything, but because they ran out of bowtie clasps at the fabric store. This week, I am making a trip to the fabric store in Chinatown, and bowtie clasps are the first on my list.

3. Paint moustaches on my fingernails.
See, it's not as weird as it sounds!

4. Get a haircut.
It's about time.

5. Make a dress like this.
I've made a few backless dresses recently, and I really like them. I love this black and white combo though, so hopefully mine will turn out just as nice!

Happy Spring Break!

Put your fist and arrows up

Why am I up at 6:45am you ask? Because today is HOUSING DAY! Every spring, the freshmen at Harvard decide who they want to live with for the rest of their time at College, and then they are randomly assigned to an upperclassmen house. Today is the day that they find out what house they are in, and the cool thing about THAT is that any upperclassman who wants to help deliver housing assignments to freshmen are more than welcome to.
A lucky 130 or so freshmen will be lotteried into the BEST house on campus today: Lowell House.

Lowell House has played a very significant role in my time at Harvard. I've met some of my closest friends here. I have had some of my fondest memories here. Yes, every Harvard student will tell you that THEIR house is the best, but only the finest of houses can churn out such incredible people like Natalie Portman and Matt Damon, right? Lowell House is also one of the most beautiful on campus, with our double courtyard and belltower (which is fully functional, and rung by our 'Klappermeisters' every Sunday, btw).

Lowell House has allowed me to find a family when I am so far away from home. It's really shaped my college experience, and while I am certain that had I been assigned to another house, I would feel just as proud, I'm holding true to Lowell being the best house ;) If you are wondering where the arrows from "Arrows & Bows" comes from, just check out the Lowell Crest.

Good luck freshmen, welcome to the best 3 years of your life.

I'd make that

Living in a dorm room that you are NOT allowed to paint makes decorating a little challenging, but who doesn't like a challenge? I've been making a wall hanging out of cardboard toilet paper rolls that I love (I'll post a picture of mine soon!) but I took the idea from here:
If only there was a craft supplies store in Harvard Square *sigh*

Anyways, here are some other hanging decorations I would totally make if
a) I was Martha Stewart
b) I had access to moss or
c) could attach little paper houses to tiny lights. You'll see what I mean...

Maybe I will try and make one of these over SPRING BREAK?!?! Until then, I will keep studying for midterms, but my Spring Break to-do list is coming up soon. Any suggestions of what to do?
Training for crew on campus can be really fun if you have a list of things to do in your spare time– trust me, I'm an expert :)

PS. I can't stop listening to Michelle Branch. She brings me back... I've been listening to "Love me like that" on repeat, but I can't find a good video for that, so here is another favourite.

mixmaster

The Spring 2011 Ready to Wear line from Diane von Furstenberg is the perfect mix of classic and fresh, of nautical and city-chic, and of shape and color. Generally, when we try on a new trend, we are always a little reluctant to dive right into a piece that is too literal. I mean, I love a nautical twist to an outfit, but I'm not about to go buy a sailor suit, right?
DVF has created a line for the not-so-literal, which makes it so amazing. She uses bold prints is classic shapes, and mixes bright colors in familiar cuts.
Here are some of my favorites :)
